The Great Famine
A potato blight triggers a catastrophic famine. Ireland’s population falls by 25% due to death and mass emigration.
The Easter Rising
Irish republicans launch an armed insurrection against British rule. Though defeated militarily, it paved the way for independence.
Good Friday Agreement
A major milestone in the Peace Process, bringing an end to “The Troubles” and establishing a devolved government in Northern Ireland.
